Kyoto Inspiration is a scheme which gives insights into how Kyoto’s traditional culture has provided a base, nurture and inspiration for innovations in past and present-day Japan’s popular media and arts. This summer GMD student James Cozier was accepted on to the programme to visit Japan and reflects on his experience:

I had the opportunity to attend the Kyoto Inspiration summer school through UAL and experienced first hand what makes Japan such an iconic country and Kyoto especially, as it’s the cultural capital of Japan. The programme covered such aspects of Japanese culture as manga and ancient forms of illustration, to video games and independent gaming using VR, with a near overwhelming number of trips to temples, shrines and other historical sites of relevance. The 3 week programme allowed me to meet some amazing students from all over the world and was an unforgettable experience. James Cozier
