gorin

{Type design}

‘gorin’ is a typeface that pays homage to the profound wisdom of Miyamoto Musashi’s seminal work, ‘The Book of Five Rings’ (go rin no sho), a masterpiece on martial strategy and philosophy. Translated from Japanese, ‘gorin’ embodies the essence of ‘five rings’, representing the book’s divisions: Earth, Water, Fire, Wind, and Void.

Much like Musashi's teachings, gorin transcends mere aesthetics, delving into the core principles of combat strategy and mental fortitude. The typeface's tilted counters and low centre of mass evoke stability and resilience, mirroring the poised stance of a skilled swordsman preparing for battle.

Desire to Waste

{Identity design}

From neuro-marketing to subliminal messaging & beyond, the Desire to Waste event aims to explore the mechanics of desire. The concept branches from inviting the audience to embark on a journey of uncovering the harsh reality behind materialistic consumption driven by our desires. Using acetate as the essence across the identity, the typography and motion were designed to adhere to the downward movement created by the sliced out stripes on the piece of waste plastic.

Sudoku Personas

{Motion design}

‘Sudoku Personas’ is designed to showcase the vibrant and dynamic side of Sudoku through a series of animated outcomes. By breaking the stereotype that Sudoku is a dry or overly complex game, I aimed to engage a younger audience and spark their interest. Interestingly, Sudoku includes fascinating terms like X-Wing, Candidates, and Sashimi. By exploring these concepts as unique ‘characters’, the Sudoku world is presented in a fresh, exciting, and engaging way. This new perspective makes the game more fun and intriguing for everyone.
