Beatrice Maikstenaite

Biography

Hello, I’m Beatrice Maikstenaite! A graphic and media designer from Lithuania, currently living in London. In my work, I explore various mediums such as editorial design, animation, experimental typography, 2D, and 3D designs. I enjoy working digitally as much as experimenting with physical printing, such as screen printing and linocutting. I aspire to create variety in my practice, to learn and teach about the possibilities of design.

Original Machines

‘Original Machines’ is a research and experimentation-based visual identity for the Design Museum exhibition. The themes revolve around technology and art, and how they co-exist. The identity unveils how designers and artists adapt their work habits to collaborate with AI (Artificial Intelligence). With the rise in generative AI and specifically its integration in the Adobe Suite, how does the workflow and the outcome of branding appear? Is it truly original? I made a full media package that includes posters, billboards, a website, invitations, social media templates, merch, leaflets, and speaker strings.

Deep Dive–Absence of Presence

‘Absence of Presence’ is a publication project that explores a disposable cup as a prop in the movie industry. The book highlights some of the most iconic cinematographic creations featuring THE CUP chronologically, starting from the 1960s up until 2024. The original clips are altered with the Adobe Generative Fill to crop THE CUP out. The utilisation of AI reveals an unnatural position of the actor’s hand. The purpose is to reveal how the lack of THE CUP creates ambiguity and uneasiness in the body language or the appearance of the setting.

Perpetual Calendar

Design of a product, ‘Perpetual Calendar’, and brand identity. The calendar is designed by me for the stationery store ‘Not Just A Shop’ in High Holborn, London. For the production of the table calendar, I used laser cutting and CNC machines to create a clean and minimal product. The logo ‘Perpetual’ contains a bold typeface with transformed letters to portray the circular aspect of the perpetual meaning. The packaging design contains instructions and a preview of the product to attract the customer. The promotional short video has catchy transitions that reveal the logo and its iterations.
