Hi!
I’m Chengyu Ni, a graphic and motion designer from China. I enjoy finding interesting visual language from everyday life and maintaining my curiosity in the design journey. I’m trying to make the design playful. Let’s play together.

ANTI-CLIMB EYES
How do you feel when your eyes are uncomfortable? Will your eyes feel tired when you use electronic products for a long time?
This project explores the eye’s condition from normal to abnormal. Taking the element of anti-climbing fences, as anti-climbing fences act like eyelashes, which both protect and potentially harm our eyes.
I documented anti-climb fences in Whitechapel, London. Then I sorted them by their shape and level of sharpness, to represent the feeling of itchy, stinging, painful and dry eyes.
Finally they are displayed in an interactive way. I fold them in the form of paper umbrellas as the wink is like the way the umbrella moves. The audience can open, close, rotate and play with the umbrellas.

PLANT SCREAM
When plants are subjected to drought and cut, they make a ‘scream’, which is a high-frequency noise that is inaudible to humans. Just as humans react when they are stressed.
In this animation, I’d like to visualise the plant’s ‘scream’ to emphasise the identity of plants.
