Matt Diggle

Biography

I’m Matt Diggle, a graduate designer, working primarily within creative direction, editorial and book arts. I have a passionate interest in print in particular, finding validity and importance in the tactility and commitment of the medium. My work is elevated by my ability to cross reference themes with my other interests, leading to new view points and original approaches to research and development of my personal projects.

Theatre of Cruelty

Theatre of Cruelty is an editorial project project exploring fringe visual languages used on social media, and contemporary artists that have used the internet to mould and self mythologise themselves and their art. The book is made of found imagery and my own writing, drawing a contextual link between modern disillusioned internet users, contemporary performers and Antonin Artuad’s theatrical movement, where the publication got its title. The final book was coptic bound with a hard cover.

Dark Satanic Mills

Dark Satanic Mills is a publication that explores the effect of sociopolitical events and climates on fine art aesthetics from the industrial revolution to modern day. The publication uses a verse of William Blake’s Jerusalem as inspiration, and a starting point of the timeline, which then takes the reader on a journey through western fine art movements with only halftone reproductions of famous artworks, inviting the audience to explore the underlying narrative of the works without over prescribing a single school of thought. The final book was hard covered with cloth, with foil blocked details.
