Biography

Hi, I’m Mary and I am a graphic designer who has a keen interest in type, editorial and print. I always approach projects with these three aspects in mind. However, my skill set ranges wide in experimentation to reach a suitable outcome.

Type as Sculpture

The idea was to display type weights in a physical form that show the interpolation points between the thinnest and the heaviest weight.

This project explores the notion of switching from analogue to digital for how to visualise type.

An outcome was a 3D printed model in clear resin.

The project research explored different ways of visualising type weights through the code, 3d, variable type and font-making in its tradition sense in letterpress and the more contemporary process using Glyphs.

Spacing Material | Letterpress printing

Questioning how traditional printing ways such as letterpress can teach designers fundamental design principles.

This book was conceived with the idea of exploring and visualising spacing material by letterpress printing at London College of Communication Letterpress Workshop. The five standard spacing sizes are thin, mid, thick, en, em, and quad.
