Biography

I am a graphic designer, originally from China, who is interested in editorial design, data visualisation, illustration and branding. My works try to break barriers between cultures and promote better understanding between different communities. I enjoy working with traditional handcrafts and cultural things, and then combining them with new technology to create playful designs.

The orders in Dongsi Alley

Dongsi is an ancient building zone in Beijing. Different from the other cities, the alleys in Beijing are called Hutongs, and the people in Hutong create their own specific orders. By analysing partition, numbers and colours, this series of mapping books shows how people in Dongsi 11st & 12nd Alley establish the different orders from such a modern city. The book imitates the feeling of observing the Hutong culture through the extremely narrow layout. The visitors need to go through the narrow alleys and look through the cracks in the door to understand the resident's life.
The pictures in the book accurately record the geographic location of each item, and the readers can understand the distance in the real alley through the distance between the pictures.

Healing Drawing

Healing Drawing is a two day event in Beijing. Many people are shy about drawing, especially in China, many people think painting is something that only professionals can do. The aim of this project is to encourage people to express their feelings through drawing.
These faces are inspired by a well-known Chinese doggerel – The Old Man Ding. Through this doggerel, everyone can use numbers and Chinese characters to create a human figure. This makes the people who are not familiar with drawing realise that drawing can be simple and casual.
