Biography

Hi! I’m Yuna. I am a multidisciplinary designer with a deep interest in various fields, from design to fine art. I enjoy the practice of problem-solving within a set brief by coming up with intriguing ideas, as well as the design practice that focuses solely on creating images, emphasising visuals and layouts. Rather than settling on a single medium, I like to explore and try new mediums, always selecting the one that best showcases and communicates each project’s unique idea. I aspire to be an artist who continually researches fascinating topics and creates the finest pieces that express them best.

Kalpa

The Kalpa (2024) is a performance art video that uses random and diverse materials to create friction with a single rock, symbolising the Buddhist concept of Kalpa, which represents an extremely long period of time.

Kalpa, as described by Buddha, is not defined arithmetically but rather illustrated by a similitude: it is longer than the time it would take to wear away a cube of rock measuring 400 meters on each side by brushing it with a piece of cloth once every hundred years.

In this video, 50 different random and diverse materials interact with a single rock in various ways, generating friction. Despite the continuous friction throughout the video, the appearance of the rock appearance remains unchanged from beginning to end, embodying the concept of Kalpa.

This project offers a unique perspective on time, defining unimaginably long durations through simple, human-like descriptions to help our understanding. It challenges conventional concepts of time, creating a new system defined by metaphors.
