The light of the space will be the orange of the sun, because the sun always controls people's daily routine, and the light of the sun in this space will not go out, which also means that people in this game will not rest.

Peter Cannings was a pioneering Digital Design Lecturer at LCC from the mid 1980s until his death in 2012. The Peter Cannings Memorial Award recognises final year student work which carries on Peter’s pioneering legacy of innovation in digital design and digital media. The award itself is to the value of £500 and is open to LCC Design School undergraduate students completing their final year. In addition to the prize money, the award winner receives ongoing help, networking contacts and mentoring opportunities.

This years winner was BA GMD student Qiuhui Hou, who was recognised for her thorough research for the innovative piece, Run! New Eco!. The project focuses on contemporary Chinas green financial products, and analyses the operational mechanism of the product, and dialectically looks at the relationship between environmental protection, capital development, and user behaviour records.

Qiuhuis reaction to winning:

During my undergraduate study in visual communication, I realised that visual communication is not limited to graphic and digital elements, but uses visuals to convey information. I often use contemporary Chinese cultural products as a portal of observation, responding to authority and control in the culture through integrated media such as interactive technology, installation, and video.

I am grateful to The Peter Cannings Memorial Award for giving me the opportunity to showcase my ideas and work. Every participant was excellent and I was inspired by the work of others in the process. I am also grateful to my tutor, Owen Wells, for introducing me to this valuable opportunity and for giving me a lot of valuable advice on my project.

In the future, I will experiment with different methodological mediums to make new connections with digital technology to explore, discuss, and reflect on contemporary socio-cultural phenomena. To build an in-depth narrative space, to explore the interaction with the audience and become a unique and energetic practitioner through effective methods and critical thinking.

The light will change according to the intensity of the game. The more intense the game, the stronger the light will be, and the game will never end.

Storyboard of game screens

The main body of the game is a sphere. Three players in one space control the sphere's moving direction through virtual buttons, to pass through the curved track. As the game gets smoother, the speed increases, similar to a racing game.
